Survivor Philippines Celebrity Showdown Episode 1 Recap

In the grand hall of the Tinidee Hotel in Ranong Thailand, showbiz talk show host Pia Guanio was waiting for the arrival of the 18 celebrity castaways of the third season of Survivor Philippines.

With her, dozens of photographers, Filipino and local members of the press were about to clamor for the celebrities who arrived on limousines and walked the red carpet, with all the glitz and glamour, oblivious of what they would face for the next 36 days.

The press conference started.

Overheard, Rockstar Buhawi Meneses said that everyone has an equal chance to win the game while sports legend Elma Muros, wouldn’t let the hunky castaways intimidate her.

The Brapanese model Akihiro Sato, said he joined the game to challenge himself while Solenn Huessaff, wanted to know how far she could go and prove to everyone that she’s not just the socialite people may perceive her to be.

Suddenly, in the middle of the press conference, locals barged into the hotel and took away the celebrities. The castaways were visibly shaken and confused as they were forced to ride the canopies in separate groups not knowing where they are heading.

Meanwhile, on a chopper hovering above the islands, the new host of the show, Richard Gutierrez presented the dangers the celebrity castaways would have to face in Ranong – the wild and dangerous animals, the extreme weather conditions and the emotional rollercoaster they could have never been prepared for.

The Icky Convoy

Stand-up comedian Pretty Trizsa, young-actress Michelle Madrigal, basketball player Ervic Vijandre and comedian Myka Flores were riding a canopy filled with fish; while feisty actress Karen delos Reyes, heartthrobs Ian Batherson, Ahron Villena, Akihiro and Elma were trying to endure the smell of their ride filled with chicken and eggs.

On another ride, Starstruck finalist Princess Snell, TV host Mico Aytona and Solenn were trying to have fun with the locals. The same is true with celebrity veterinarian Doc Ferds Recio and Buhawi.

Meanwhile, sexy-actress Aubrey Miles was trying to avoid conversation with her former boyfriend, Jon. She said that she has no intention of making his current girlfriend, Michelle, jealous or to start a fight with her, unless of course, if it’s the other way around.

But Michelle’s concern was far from her boyfriend, as she was seen on the verge of tears. Michelle badly needed to pee that she used her gown and a freezer cover to shield herself, hopefully from embarrassment. Ervic followed suit and responded to the call of nature. Elma had to relieve herself inside the vehicle too, but was less emotional about it.

The Trek

At their drop-off point, Richard welcomed the castaways to their once in a lifetime adventure. He assured the celebrities that their lives would never be the same for the next 36 days and they wouldn’t have any special treatment. They would have to live without assistants, without food and without their earthly possessions. And to emphasize, the personal belongings of the celebrities were burned in front of them – to the castaways’ disbelief.

Richard revealed that all of them would live together as one tribe and to reach their camp, they would have to search for their own name tags inside the mangrove forest. He then presented a map and Buwi took it in behalf of the group. Richard also handed Buwi the flint.

At their camp site, the castaways would find their footwear and bolo. But if nightfall comes and they fail to finish the trek, their stuff would be taken back from them.

Inside the marshy mangrove trail, the castaways, mostly barefooted, scoured for their name tags on top of the trees.

Nanay Elma got her name tag first, while Ian also got his but the name plate fell from his side. Akihiro eventually found Michelle’s name tag. But as each of them got everyone else’s name tags, Doc Ferds and Michelle realized that they were about to lose their track towards the camp.

Amidst the chaos, Karen thought that the rest of the castaways were wasting their energy because whoever gets his nametag first doesn’t matter. They just have to follow the trail as one tribe.

They realized that they hit a snag when Ian told them he lost his name tag. Eventually, Akihiro found Miko’s name tag and left a marker where he got it not knowing that Ian’s name tag was just nearby. Celebrity assistant, Yaya Moi decided to help Ian look for his name tag as the rest of the castaways move on. But Doc Ferds eventually found it. Ian admitted that he was worried that his first mistake would cost him the game.

Finally, the castaways completed their name tags and found the way to their camp.

Happy Campers? Not!

As the castaways reach their camp site, they found a beach with hardly water on it and coconut trees bearing no fruits. There’s no apparent water or food source.

At the sight of the island, Aubrey and Akihiro knew that their life would be harder than what they initially thought. Karen, on the other hand, understood that being a celebrity castaway does not guarantee that they would be living on an island paradise.

Meanwhile, something, rather someone else caught Pretty Trizsa’s sight. It’s Jon, whom he called as the “epitome of masculinity” and the guy he would want to be stuck with on an island.

The castaways got their bolo and footwear then proceeded to build their shelter. Jon didn’t like the progress of the makeshift house, but declined to say anything because he “didn’t want to be the leader.”

On their first day at the camp, Solenn noticed that some of the castaways were not helping out. But Karen explained that she deliberately didn’t work for the camp, knowing that they would eventually be divided into different tribes.

Later, Buwi failed to use the flint then Jon attempted to start a fire using a bamboo.

Princess couldn’t care less if they would have fire or not, since she just wanted to sleep. Ian and Aubrey took notice of Myka’s insistent yapping as she pointed fingers on everyone. Aubrey even described Myka as ignorant.

Finally, the castaways successfully created a bonfire, hopefully to last throughout their first night together.

The first episode of Survivor Philippines Celebrity Showdown is now airing on GMA 7.
