After Dominique Wilkins, it’s Gary Payton and Chris Webber’s turn to stir up excitement in basketball-crazy Philippines.

The two leads this year’s cast of past NBA superstars who will see action against current PBA All-Stars and legends in the 2010 NBA Asia Challenge set at the Araneta Coliseum on August 27.

Payton, a nine-time All-Star who won an NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2006, and Webber, the former member of the University of Michigan’s celebrated “Fab Five" who later became the face of the Sacramento Kings, will be joined by Mitch Richmond and 1997 NBA All-Star MVP Glen Rice in the one-game event co-presented by the NBA, Solar and Basketball TV, and supported by the PBA.

Rice also won an NBA title in 2000 during the first of the Los Angeles Lakers’ three straight championships as part of a deadly triumvirate that include Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

Last year, Wilkins, the former NBA slam dunk champion, anchored a team of fellow past superstars that include Robert Horry, Tim Hardaway and Vlade Divac who suited up in the inaugural staging of the event also held at the Big Dome.

With Wilkins pouring in 28 points against the PBA All-Stars, the NBA Generations team won by a mile, 109-86.

This time, the hosts are aiming to even things up.

Leading the PBA Legends are four-time league MVP Alvin Patrimonio, Ronnie Magsanoc, Atoy Co, Vergel Meneses and two-time MVP Benjie Paras who will join forces with active players LA Tenorio, Asi Taulava, Arwind Santos, Dondon Hontiveros, Ronald Tubid and Rico Maierhofer.

Patrimonio, Magsanoc, Paras, Hontiveros and Santos were part of last year’s PBA All-Star team.
